Launching of LNG powered specialist vessel

On Tuesday, 16th of September the launching ceremony of a specialist vessel intended for supplying oil drilling and oil mining rigs took place in Remontowa Shipbuilding. The ship is being constructed for one of the biggest Norwegian offshore fleet owners. It has already been contracted for maintenance of a Shell oilfield in the North Sea.

Realization of this contract is of great importance to Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. since it will be the first supply vessel powered by LNG fuelled engine. Previously this technology was implemented in car-passenger ferries build in Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A.

It is worth mentioning that the said vessel will be fully constructed in Gdańsk – starting from preparing workshop documentation, going through building of the hull and ending up with complete outfitting and performing of sea trials. The vessel will be equipped with state-of-the-art navigation systems including an advanced dynamical positioning system DP2, gas-electric propulsion, firefighting system Fi-Fi 2 and facilities for containing of oil spills.

Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. has for many years already been a well-recognized supplier of ships supporting oil mining industry. However, this time the supply vessel to be build is the first to use LNG propulsion. Thereby combined will be our experience in building ferries with LNG propulsion and experience in the offshore sector.

The 89 meter long ship with a deck area of 980 m2 will be capable of carrying up to 5400 tons. It will be served by a 25-man crew. The vessel will meet the highest standards of environmental protection and safety of navigation “CLEAN DESIGN” and will fly under the most reputable Norwegian flag.

The ship’s concept and technical documentation is prepared by Norwegian Wartsila Ship Design office.
The ship is built under the supervision of DNV classification society.
