New AHTS vessel for Canadian owner

Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A., member of Remontowa Holding has strengthened its leading position among providers of multipurpose offshore support vessels and gained new clients. New contract for construction an anchor handling, tug and supply vessel destined for serving in harsh environment conditions was signed on 8th of May 2014. The vessel will be built for Canadian – Norwegian joint venture, than she will be used for a charter to one of the largest oil companies in the world – ExxonMobil. The AHTS will be built according to Rolls – Royce Marine design.

The vessel is destined for satisfying the general demands of the offshore industry, primarily – ice management including monitoring of freezing level and – if necessary correcting course of moving icebergs to protect offshore installations in region of Labrador and Newfoundland. Furthermore vessel will be used for passenger transport and evacuation, oil recovery and fire-fighting protection. These tasks will be carried out around one of the biggest offshore platform “Hibernia”.

It is worth to remind, that Gdansk Ship Repair Yard “Remontowa” S.A. contributed to the Hibernia project in the late 1990s. The Yard built the barge for transport the platform in place of her destination. In this way, two Shipyards belonging to Remontowa Holding – Gdańsk Ship Repair Yard “Remontowa” S.A. – participating in construction of first fixed offshore platform, and Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. – building the vessel for service and protection “Hibernia” forever remain in offshore history.

The vessel will be equipped with a water monitor, which will break the pack ice around the platform and prevent from formation of ice cover.

The Rolls – Royce Wave Piercing hull will cut through the waves, minimize the shipping of green water and ensure a safer and more pleasant journey. The robust hybrid propulsion system will increase the vessel operational flexibility and reduce fuel consumption.

The vessel will encompass integrated systems including applications for propulsion, power generation, automation, deck machinery and cargo handling. Delivery of this vessel is scheduled in fourth quarter of 2015.
