Next vessel delivered to the Owner

On 12th of May 2016 REMONTOWA SHIPBUILDING, member of capital group REMONTOWA HOLDING delivered multipurpose offshore support vessel – AVALON SEA.

It is next vessel built in Remontowa Shipbuilding destined for North – American market, but first which can be used in harsh, North Atlantic conditions.

It will be chartered by ExxonMobil Canada to support the Hibernia and Hebron offshore fields in region of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The vessel will fulfil all the tasks for the AHTS such as: crew transport and evacuation, transport a variety of cargo, assists the anchorage of other objects, the function as an emergency tugs, oil recovery and fire-fighting protection.

Additionally to the other units of this type she is also intended for ice management including monitoring of freezing level and – if necessary correcting course of moving icebergs to protect offshore installations against possible collision.

Realization of this task is possible thanks to untypical bow’s shape and Rolls – Royce “Wave Piercing” hull. This shape of the hull improves seaworthiness of the vessel especially during sailing on the rough sea.

The vessel is also equipped with a water monitor, which will break the pack ice around the platform and prevent from formation of solid ice cover.

Ice standard of the vessel comply with ice class 1C enabling navigations in ice with thickness of 0,4 m. The hybrid propulsion system increases the vessel’s operational redundancy and minimizes impact to the environment thanks to low fuel consumption. The vessel was equipped with the most modern technology and systems to ensure the highest standards of safety and vessel’s operations.

It is worth to remind, that Gdansk Ship Repair Yard “Remontowa” S.A. participated in the Hibernia project in the late 1990s. The Yard built the barge for transport of the platform to the place of her destination. In this way, two Shipyards belonging to Remontowa Holding – Gdańsk Ship Repair Yard “Remontowa” S.A. – participating in construction of first fixed offshore platform, and Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. – as the builder of the vessel for service and protection “Hibernia” remain in offshore history.
